Rick Niece

Dynamic speaker, award-winning author & educator shares importance of community

Teacher, writer, mentor, university president, memory keeper, humorist, role model, poet, optimist, servant leader: I am the sum of those parts. I enjoy talking to groups about crisp writing, character development, the richness of language, and the importance of community. I am an advocate for common people, the disadvantaged, and small towns--they are the real heroes of literature and my books. My stories are universal, engaging, and timeless. Known as a dynamic public speaker, I draw audience members into my presentations through thought-provoking and humorous messages. I share my carefully-pocketed memories and invite others to remember their own through writing exercises and open discussions. A teacher at heart, I know when to lead a group and when to follow. My style of writing centers around the concept of automythography: a work of non-fiction that looks reflectively at what we think we remember and how we think we remember it. We all have iridescent memories based upon treasured stories. My goal as a presenter is for others to re-capture their memories in the form of personal narratives. I relish when that happens, as do they. As a group, we gain, share, and savor.
